Home Base, a partnership between the Red Sox Foundation and the Massachusetts General Hospital, invites you to apply for a FREE, accredited, 2-day, in-person Prolonged Exposure (PE) Therapy Workshop on March 17-18, 2016. The training will be held in Portland, ME at the Seasons Event Center, 155 Riverside St., Portland, ME, 04103.
PE Workshop Description:
This intensive 2-day workshop provides training in PE. PE is one of the gold standard treatments for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). PE is a 10-15 session evidence-based, structured treatment for PTSD. PE includes 4 primary treatment components: psychoeducation, breathing retraining, repeated in vivo exposure, and repeated imaginal exposure to the trauma memory. In addition, PE involves weekly practice assignments for clients, which are reviewed during weekly treatment sessions with PE clinicians. The training will also include discussion of problem solving clinical challenges of providing PE.

Who is the Workshop for?
This course is appropriate for licensed community mental health providers interested in learning and using a gold standard, evidence based psychotherapy for PTSD in their practice. We are looking to train community clinicians who have an interest in treating National Guard and Reserve members and their families.
Consultation Program:
In addition to the 2-day PE workshop, Home Base will be offering a 6 month phone consultation program for mental health clinicians interested in learning and implementing Prolonged Exposure (PE). We will be prioritizing applications for those that are able to participate in both the training and the consultation program.
The goal of this training and consultation effort is twofold: (1) participants who receive the workshop and participate in the phone consultation will be considered competent delivering PE in their practice within 6 months, and (2) participating clinicians will join a community of trained providers in New England who are willing to take referrals and treat veterans and service members.
What Will I Need to Agree to for Participation in the Consultation Program?
- Participants selected MUST attend the 2-day workshop in Portland, ME on March 17th-18th, 2016
- Weekly attendance of 1 hour group phone consultation for 6 months (time to be determined after the workshop). Groups will consist of 5 workshop participants and 1 to 2 PE consultants. (Consultants are experts in providing PE for PTSD)
- Following the workshop, participants will place an emphasis on providing PE for a client with PTSD.
- Participants are required to treat 2 clients with PTSD using the full protocol of PE. While the aim is for participants to treat military service members, clients selected for the consultation call are NOT required to be veterans or service members.
- Participants must be willing to take referrals of service members in the future.
- To maximize the consultation process, participants will record PE sessions, and Home Base consultants will review at least 3 PE sessions. Recordings will be secured in accordance with HIPAA guidelines and will require client consent.
