Awareness Is the Starting Point
Each May, Mental Health Awareness Month invites us to reflect, to learn, and to continue reducing the stigma that surrounds mental health and substance use. It is a reminder that all of us are impacted in some way, whether personally or through the people we care about.
Awareness matters. But it is only the beginning.
Turning Awareness Into Action
Real impact comes from building systems of care that are accessible, connected, and responsive to the needs of our communities. This is why we are so pleased to share that our Behavioral Health Home program is expanding.
We are now serving York County and all of Cumberland County, with immediate openings available for both children and adults.
This expansion reflects something important. When we talk about mental health, we are also talking about access. We are talking about how people find care, how they stay connected to it, and how supported they feel along the way.
What Is a Behavioral Health Home?
Behavioral Health Home, or BHH, is a community-based, integrated care model designed to meet people where they are. It brings together medical, behavioral health, and wellness support in a coordinated and thoughtful way.
For many individuals, navigating multiple providers, appointments, and systems can feel overwhelming. BHH creates one central place for care coordination, helping individuals feel more connected and supported in their journey.
The focus is not only on addressing immediate needs, but also on building independence, strengthening self-management, and connecting individuals with resources in their own communities.
Who Can Benefit
BHH can be especially meaningful for individuals who feel like their care is fragmented or difficult to navigate. It supports those who want to remain connected to their current providers while receiving additional coordination and guidance, as well as those with complex medical and behavioral health needs who benefit from a team-based approach.
During Mental Health Awareness Month, this kind of support matters deeply. Awareness helps us recognize the need. Access and coordination help us respond to it.

Moving Forward, Together
For clinicians, case managers, and community partners, this expansion creates new opportunities to connect clients with timely, comprehensive care. With immediate openings available, referrals can help ensure that individuals and families receive support without unnecessary delays.
As we continue through Mental Health Awareness Month, we remain grounded in a simple belief. When care is connected, accessible, and centered around the individual, better outcomes are possible for everyone.
Together, we can continue building a system that supports not only awareness, but real pathways to wellness across Maine.
